AWEL Miscellaneous Packages for RHEL/CentOS 7

This is just a small repository where I put software I like to have that is included in Fedora but is not in RHEL/CentOS and is not (yet) in EPEL.

Right now it just has three packages, but I will not update this page often, so feel free to check.

Midori

Midori is a webkitgtk web browser. I really like its simplistic interface and that it uses GStreamer back-end for multimedia. With the GStreamer plugins from my GStreamer repository and the OnePlay codec pack from Fluendo installed, Midori has better multimedia capabilities than any browser on proprietary operating systems.

It does crash occasionally on pages that have bad JavaScript, but it actually actually crashes far less often in CentOS 7 than it does in Fedora 20 even though it is the same version from the same src.rpm.

I really like Midori.

Aisleriot

I am rather surprised this is not in EPEL. It is the best solitaire game I have seen. Not overly fancy, nor does it repeat decks like I have seen in Windows. It is truly random. Windows tries to give you decks based upon your skill, which I find to be insulting.

If you like solitaire, I have it packages.

BSD Games

Most of the text based games I remember playing on the UC Berkeley game computer in the 80s (Dad was a sysadmin there) via a terminal over an acoustic coupler. Oddly it doesn't have rogue, which was my favorite. It does has adventure though.

Repository Usage

This repository depends upon EPEL for dependencies. EPEL comes enabled by default in CentOS 7, RHEL users may have to install a file, I do not know.

Download and install the following RPM file: awel-release

That RPM will install my public GPG key as well as the configuration file /etc/yum.repos.d/awel.repo

That configuration file is actually used for several package repositories, and the misc repository is disabled by default. Edit the file and change the enabled setting for the [awel-misc] repository from 0 to 1 so that after editing the file, it looks like this:

[awel-misc]
name=AWEL Misc packages for RHEL/CentOS 7 - $basearch
baseurl=http://awel.domblogger.net/7/misc/$basearch
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-AWEL7

That will enable the [awel-misc] repository and all packages in it can now be installed through the yum package manager. For example, to install Midori, in a terminal (as root) you would type:

yum install midori

That will install Midori and any library dependencies it needs.
